The Indian electric two-wheeler space doesn’t slow down for anyone. Just when you think the dust has settled, three new scooters line up at the gate almost simultaneously — and this time, the launches are coming from Ather, Simple Energy, and E3 Electric.AI. Three brands, three very different pitches, and one very crowded market that’s only getting more interesting.
Ather Goes Mass Market
Ather has long been the brand that hardcore EV enthusiasts swear by — refined, tech-forward, built for riders who actually read spec sheets. But with the upcoming Ather EL, the Bengaluru-based company is clearly eyeing a much wider audience. This is Ather’s move into the volume segment, targeting buyers who’ve been sitting on the fence waiting for an accessible price point without giving up the brand’s reputation for quality. Think of it as Ather finally knocking on the door of the everyday commuter rather than just the early adopter crowd.
For urban riders in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, or Pune who clock serious daily kilometres, this could be the sweet spot they’ve been waiting for. A trusted name at a friendlier number is a hard combination to ignore.
Simple Energy — Still in the Fight
Simple Energy has had a bumpy road since the Simple One generated serious buzz a couple of years back. Delays, funding challenges, and production hiccups tested even the most patient followers. But the brand appears to be getting its act together and is preparing to re-enter the conversation with renewed intent. The upcoming launch is essentially Simple Energy saying: we’re still here, and we’re serious.
If they can deliver on the performance and range numbers they’ve historically promised, there’s definitely a market for them — particularly among riders who want something that punches above its weight on the highway stretches that connect our cities.
E3 Trion — The Wildcard
E3 Electric.AI is the name most riders won’t immediately recognise, and that’s exactly what makes the E3 Trion the most intriguing entry of the three. Newer players entering the EV scooter space in 2024-25 have to do something genuinely different to cut through — whether that’s a compelling range figure, a sharp price, connected features, or a form factor that stands out in traffic. We’ll find out soon which angle E3 is betting on, but the fact that they’re stepping up alongside established names suggests they believe they have something real to show.
What This Means for Indian Riders
Three launches in quick succession tells you one thing clearly — the mainstream EV wave in India isn’t a distant forecast anymore, it’s happening right now. More options mean more competition, and more competition almost always benefits the buyer through better pricing, stronger warranties, and faster after-sales networks.
That said, scooter riders and motorcycle riders aren’t the same tribe, and plenty of you reading this are in it for the long haul — literal long hauls, across ghats and mountain passes where range anxiety is a very real thing and charging infrastructure is still catching up. For daily urban commuting though, any of these three could make a genuinely solid case.
Watch these spaces closely over the next few weeks. The Indian EV landscape is about to get louder, and for once, that’s a good thing.
