Hero MotoCorp — the largest motorcycle manufacturer on the planet by volume — has confirmed it’s working on its first proper electric motorcycle, expected to roll out under the Vida brand sometime in 2027. This isn’t just another scooter with a bigger battery. We’re talking about Hero stepping into the electric motorcycle segment for real.
Hero has already dipped its toes in the EV pool with the Vida V1 electric scooter, but motorcycles are a completely different animal — especially in India, where bikes dominate the roads and the culture. An electric motorcycle from the country’s biggest two-wheeler brand carries enormous weight. Hero has the dealership network, the service infrastructure, and the volume pricing power that no startup EV brand can match right now.
If Hero gets this right, they could do for electric motorcycles what they did for commuter bikes in the 90s — make them mainstream, affordable, and everywhere. That’s a massive shift for the Indian riding landscape.
Details are still tight, but the direction is clear: Hero wants to expand Vida beyond scooters and push into a segment that appeals to actual motorcycle riders — not just urban commuters. Range anxiety, charging infrastructure, and long-distance touring are the three things most Indian riders throw at any electric vehicle conversation — and fairly so.
